Manufacturer Notes: This smooth cone 5-6 body fires a dark black in oxidation. It is designed with Navajo Wheel in mind. One will find the same great plasticity that makes Navajo Wheel a great throwing body in Night. This Body is for oxidation firing only. Make sure fumes are not breathed off kiln. DO NOT RAKU. To get bright colors we recommend using a white engobe under your glazes. This will allow brightly colored glazes to shine and reduce pin holing. Recommended biscuiting at cone 04 to improve glaze performance.
IMCO Red Velvet (cone 8) Info SDS
Formerly known as Navajo Wheel Regular. A smooth textured plastic red clay. An excellent wheel and hand building clay. Deep red tile color. 10% absorption at cone 6. Note: upper tile is fired oxidation, lower tile is fired in reduction. Note from the manufacturer: "This clay was originally designed as a cone 6 body but as the clay has changed in the pits. Red Velvet now vitrifies at cone 8 (this change occurred around 2015)."
IMCO Red Velvet 35 (cone 8) Info SDS
Formerly Navajo Wheel 35. Outstanding throwing body. Contains a 35 mesh grog that lends good structural strength. Rich red tile color under oxidation at cone 5-6, dark brown with a moderate reduction at cone 5. Note: upper tile is fired oxidation, lower tile is fired in reduction. Note from the manufacturer about Red Velvet: "This clay was originally designed as a cone 6 body but as the clay has changed in the pits. Red Velvet now vitrifies at cone 8 (this change occurred around 2015). Absorption 8% at cone 6"
IMCO Stoneware 1C (cone 8) Info SDS
Fires sandstone color in oxidation and a brown in reduction. Contains a fine silica sand. Note: upper tile is fired oxidation, lower tile is fired in reduction. As per the manufacturer..."Stoneware 1-C will give the appearance of a cone 10 reduction clay body when fired to cone 5 in oxidation. This body is made of local clays averaging just 25 miles from the pits to our pug mill. Though it was originally developed as a cone 6 body changes in the clay pits have increased the temperature for vitrification to cone 8."

Laguna WC436, B-Mix 5 w/Grog Info SDS
A very fine grog makes for a more forgiving body with a slight texture and minimal speckling. Fires to cone 5/6.
Laguna WC871, Calico Info SDS
A good, general purpose clay. Specks generally bleed into glazes. 60 mesh sand gives a medium texture. Cone 5 oxidation color is gray/buff and the reduction is gray/brown.
